Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources Services develops strategies, policies and leads innovative solutions on best practices and continuous improvement for faculty and staff, proactively anticipating needs and developing programs aligned with the university’s mission and strategic priorities. The Director of HR Services is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing the delivery of core human resources services through a team of HR Generalists. This role ensures consistent and high-quality support for managers in areas including personnel actions, performance management, organizational design, policy administration, and compliance. The Director drives operational excellence, fosters a strong employee experience, and partners with HR subject matter experts to deliver integrated HR solutions across the organization. They champion inclusive practices that support a diverse and equitable campus community.
 

Essential Functions:
  • Provides consultative guidance, develops and mentors a team of HR Generalists in providing responsive, consistent, and high-impact HR support to departments and employees.
  • Provides guidance to managers in creating a positive and inclusive working environment.
  • Provides counsel and advice to the Provost, Deans and other leadership on all faculty and staff personnel matters.
  • Conducts and oversee sensitive employee investigations, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with legal standards.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to managers and staff on a wide range of HR matters, including policy interpretation, conflict resolution, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversees the administration and compliance of HR policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring alignment with employment laws and organizational goals.
  • Collaborates with Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Compensation, Learning & Development, and other HR subject matter experts to ensure a seamless and coordinated HR service delivery model.
  • Partners with leaders to drive performance management, talent development, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Drives process improvement by leveraging existing and emerging HR technologies.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 7 years of related experience, including prior management experience.
  • Experience in an academic setting, particularly with the various forms of academic appointments.
  • Ability to build strong collaborative relationships.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and foster teamwork.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to navigate incredibly complex and sensitive employment matters.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working in the public sector.
  • Experience with Workday.
  • Experience leading a team of HR professionals.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is $130k-$150k (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
